New DVD's

You know what the best subject line in an email is?
"Your Amazon.com order has shipped."

Over the last couple of weeks we have received some great dvd's.

Let's start with what is probably my favorite movie: Ben Hur

I saw this movie in a theater in Cheyenne, Wyoming, in 1959. A friend of mine from school asked me to go to the movie with his family. My parents told me I could go, but I don't think they knew it was a trip out of state (we were living in a suburb of Denver at the time). I remember we sat in a balcony booth.

Here's what is included in this 4 disc set:

New digital transfer from restored 65MM elements
Music-only track

Disc 3:
The 1925 feature-length silent version of Ben-Hur with a stereophonic orchestral score by composer Carl Davis

Disc 4:
2005 documentary: Ben-Hur: The Epic That Changed Cinema - Current filmmakers such as Ridley Scott and George Lucas reflect on the importance and influence of the film
1994 documentary: Ben-Hur: The Making of an Epic hosted by Christopher Plummer
Directed by William Wyler - 1986 Emmy Award? -nominated documentary featuring the last interview with Wyler before his death
Ben-Hur: A Journey Through Pictures - New audiovisual recreation of the film via stills, storyboards, sketches, music and dialogue
Screen Tests: Leslie Nielsen and Cesare Danova, Leslie Nielsen and Yale Wexler, George Baker and William Russel
Highlights from the 4/4/1960 Academy Awards ceremony
Vintage newsreels gallery
Theatrical trailer gallery

I am anxious to watch all the extra features. Plus the movie has commentary with Charlton Heston.

This next is a really big set. The 10 Commandments on 6 discs - 3 standard and 3 Blu-Ray. This is a limited edition, numbered set with only 100,000 made.
This is the front of the box it all comes in:

Here are some of the special features in the set:

• Newsreel footage from the 1956 World Premiere in New York.
• An extensive photo gallery packed with never-before-seen photos from the Cecil B. DeMille’s BYU Archives.
• A “Making of” Trailer from 1956 as well as Theatrical Trailers for subsequent re-releases of the film
• Hand-tinted footage of the Exodus and Parting of the Red Sea Sequence from the 1923 Silent Film.

Here's a shot of everything in the set:

• 2-Disc DVD of the fully restored 1956 version
• 2-Disc Blu-ray of the fully restored 1956 version

Finally, the best movie of last year.

Now I'm off to make some popcorn!

I purchased the King's Speech Wednesday. We saw it in the theater and watched it at home. Really good movie.
