Liz Update
Liz went back to the hospital for a follow-up visit with the doctor who treated her after the accident. She had been having pain in her knee. Turns out she damaged some ligaments or tendons in her knee. Now she has to hobble around like this:
She goes back to the doctor on the 18th for another evaluation.

Traffic Stop
So, I'm sitting at work about 10 PM tonight when one of the Duchesne County deputies asks for a drivers license check.......on Laurie! She got pulled over because she still had her expired Washington plates on her car. Her new Utah plates were in the trunk. And I think we can blame her Dad. He told her not to worry right now since she had been driving on the expired Washington plates for the last three months.

Open House Tomorrow
We've been scurrying around like crazy the last few days to get everything ready for the big open house tomorrow night for Andy amd Laurie. They are driving out tonight from Provo. Everyone else will be traveling tomorrow. And this evening it is snowing! It will be a winter drive for all.
LaRue clipped the wedding announcement from the newspaper and I will get it scanned and posted as soon as possible.

Seattle Write-Up
Our flight went out Friday November 18th at 09:55 AM from the Salt Lake Airport. So, LaRue, Liz and I drove to Salt Lake Thursday afternoon and spent the night there in order to be at the airport early the next morning.
Robin, Emily, Brighton and Kjerstine joined us at the Crystal Inn in downtown Salt Lake so we could all go to the airport together the next morning to catch the same flight.
Before we met up with Robin, Emily and the kids, we went shopping for a shirt for Liz to wear at the reception. We hit several places in Salt Lake. No luck. So, we figured we would wait until we got to Seattle and Liz could check the place where Laurie’s sisters got their blouses.
At one point we all got some gum from a dispenser. I was chewing mine and pulled a cap off. Not just a tooth covering, but an incisor that had been set in with a post. I looked like a hillbilly. Liz and LaRue got a lot of laughs out of it. We called Andy in Seattle and the Krohns arranged for me to visit a dentist there to get the cap cemented back in place.
Friday morning we all drove to the airport. No problems going through security. But I was apprehensive about Robin’s backpack he was carrying on. He had a lot of electronic stuff in it including his laptop, a power inverter, and more. But no problems going through security. Then we had a long, long walk to the gate.
When it came time to board the plane, we all got to pre-board because of the two small children in the party. That was nice. Once we settled in the plane, Brighton took a couple of looks out the window and promptly fell asleep for the duration of the trip. Kjerstine cried several times, but was mostly well behaved.
Landing in Seattle 2 hours later we were met my brother, George, who had flown up from San Diego a little earlier that morning. He just hung around the airport waiting for our flight to arrive. Then it was on to baggage claim. Have you noticed lately how everyone’s bag looks like this: ?
After gathering up the luggage we all journeyed outside the terminal to meet Andy and Laurie’s brother, Kris. They had been sent in two vans to pick us up and shuttle us. First on the agenda was a detour to the dentist (by way of taking a wrong exit and having to double back onto the freeway). Less than 10 minutes later I had a solid tooth once again and we were off to our accommodations at the Redmond Inn.
A couple of hours later Kris came back to lead us to the Krohn’s residence where we met everyone and had (to quote Arlo Guthrie) “a Thanksgiving dinner that couldn’t be beatâ€. Before heading back to the Inn we picked up our tuxes to take to the temple.
We all met at the Seattle Temple at 11:30 for the noon wedding. It was really nice. Klaus and I were the witnesses and got to sign the marriage certificate.
Following the sealing we went outside for pictures. Andy and Laurie looked very nice and happy.
Then we all went over to a chapel next to the temple for a quick luncheon.
Onto the reception! We had to be there early for more pictures. Once the reception started it was more like a big party. Lots of guests came and stayed for music and eating and dancing. A good time was had by all.
Things wound down shortly after 8 PM. Andy and Laurie changed into traveling attire and went to make their big getaway. However, the car they were originally planning to use became unavailable when the keys were misplaced. So, they had to take Eileen’s convertible. They were going into downtown Seattle for a couple of nights at a hotel there and then drive up to British Columbia for a few days.
Sunday was a day of rest and recovery. Robin contacted one of his old mission companions, Chris Melvin, and they all went to church together. LaRue, Liz and I opted to do some tourist stuff since this would be our only opportunity this trip. We got some directions and drove into Seattle to the Space Needle. It was foggy that day, but we went up anyway. We could actually see pretty well. After that we walked over to the Science Fiction Museum. They had a lot of interesting displays and information.
After that we went back to the Inn and met up with Robin, Emily and the kids. Then back to Krohns to back up some of the gifts and return the tuxes.
Next morning it was back to the airport for the flight home. This time Brighton was awake for the take-off. He really enjoyed that. But a few minutes in to the flight he nodded off and slept all the way to Salt Lake.
Pretty routine drive home to Vernal that evening. We didn’t even see any deer on the highway.
Now this coming weekend we have the open house for Andy and Laurie here in Vernal.

Accident
Liz had an accident in her mail jeep this afternoon. She was making a left turn and got smacked on the left side. She is a bit banged up and shaken, but otherwise okay. The little jeep is totalled. It just fortunate that it is a right hand drive and she was on the opposite of the impact. I will get a picture and post it soon.
On top of that it has been a week of plumbing fun. When we got back from Seattle I had to replace the fittings under the kitchen sink. Two sections of pipe had aged and rotted through. Then today I had to remove the old bathroom sink and replace it with a completely new sink and cabinet. It still isn't completely hooked up this evening. That will have to get done tomorrow before I go to work. In the meantime we can't use either the bathroom or kitchen sink (they have a common drain). Thank goodness the tub and toilet still function!

Just a Week and a Half to Go
This time next week we'll be making last minute arrangements for the big trip to Seattle for Andy and Laurie's wedding in the Seattle Temple:
We are getting really excited. Not only for the plane ride (which will be a first for Brighton and Kjerstine) but to meet the Krohns. And my brother, George, is planning to fly up and be there for the reception. That will be nice since he has never met Emily or the grandkids.
We would like to have time to see some places in Seattle (like the Space Needle). I was in Seattle in 1974. My best friend and I had driven to British Columbia from Colorado. We rode our bicycles all over Seattle. We were only there for 3 days and it never rained! Hopefully, the weather will be nice for this trip.
Actually, we'll be in Redmond since that's where the Krohns live.

Wedding Update
Andy and Laurie came out last weekend and we spent most of the weekend preparing the wedding invitations they had created. I won't go into any descriptive details - just watch for one coming soon to a mailbox near you.
I will post a picture of one after they get mailed out.
We're all quite excited to make the trip to Seattle for the wedding and to meet Laurie's parents. It will be Brighton and Kjerstine's first plane ride. Hopefully we can get Brighton a window seat.

Old Jeep
We've been looking around for a right hand drive vehicle for Liz to use when delivering the mail. I finally found an old mail Jeep for sale. It's a bit battered, but seems to run well.
We'll probably go pick it up this week.

Kjerstine Blessing
Last weekend we (LaRue, Liz, Travis and I) drove up to Logan for Kjerstine's naming and blessing. I have added some pictures of the trip to the Bailey Acres Photo Galleries. Or, go directly by clicking here.
Robin did a really good job with the blessing.
We did notice on the drive up and back that some of the leaves are beginning to change colors. Falls a-comin'.

Next DVD Purchase
Both LaRue and I were quite excited to learn the Alfred Hitchcock Presents - Season One will be released in October on DVD!
I also read online that the entire 104 episode run of the old Superman tv series is available. I might have to check into that one.

Old Blue Truck
Sometime last year (I can't remember when exactly) Liz managed to drive the truck home and she said the steering had bound up. It would turn a bit and then the steering wheel would lock up. So, we parked it until we could get it checked.
Many moons go by and I was talking to a fellow I work with. He once had an old truck just like it. He had a steering problem and had to take it apart and rebuild it. And, "would you like me to come over and take a look at it?"
Several more weeks go by before our schedules are compatible enough to get together. When we do, we pull the steering column out and remove the steering shaft. The shaft it pretty worn out. I manage to get new bearings through the Ford dealer since the auto parts stores couldn't get them. I got a new shaft from an auto salvage place.
A couple of more weeks go by and we finally get together again to replace the steering shaft and put it all back together. Well, it still jams.
Steering box. Back to the salvage to get a box. Another few days before we can get together again.
Finally last night we get the whole thing replaced and put together again (third time). AND IT WORKS!!
So, the old truck is up and running once again!
Now I'm in the process of swapping out some car stereos. Take the good stereo out of the non-driveable car and put it into the Impala that has a flakey stereo.
Next week it's build-a-shed-time! Yippee!
