Edge of Darkness

The other night LaRue and I wanted to see a movie so we decided to go to Edge of Darkness. We didn't know anything about it but it was the best looking movie playing. Afterall, we don't have much choice here.

Here's a brief write-up of the movie from the Internet Movie Database:

Thomas Craven, a single father, has been a Boston homicide detective for many years. His 24-year-old daughter Emma, his only child, is killed on the front steps of his home. At first it appears that Craven was the intended target. He soon uncovers evidence that leads him to think differently, and decides to pursue the information at all costs. He learns his daughter led a secret life that led to her murder. He quickly finds himself confronted with a shadowy world of corporate collusion with government-sanctioned murder. In the process he collides with a secret government operative, Darius Jedburgh, whose job is to clean up and hide any remaining evidence. Craven's singleness of purpose in finding answers about Emma's death becomes a transforming experience that changes his life.

We both enjoyed the movie and thought Mel Gibson was excellent as the protaganist. The movie is rated R for language and voilence. But none of it seemed gratuitous. There are a couple of surprising moments where something unexpected happens; makes you jump.

Our biggest complaint was not with the movie itself, but the theater. I have excellent hearing and I kept turning to LaRue to see if she understood something the characters said. I've decided that the theaters here have lousy sound systems. When we watch a movie at home the sound is much more clear. So, we plan to check this one out again when it is released on DVD.

Recommended.

George hasn't said much about movies lately. I'll poke him.

Happy Valentines day to both of you.
