I'm Slacking

I have a lot of pictures that need to be uploaded and written about. We've had a visit from Liz, Gary and Owen. Also from Andy, Laurie, Asher and Rowan. Plus LaRue and I went to Roy for KD's birthday. So we have tons of pictures to process and put online. I just need some time to prepare it all.

On another note LaRue and I have seen some movies. We went to Man of Steel twice and really like it. Most recently we saw The Lone Ranger. We liked it as well.

We had wanted to see this movie in the theater, but it never came to our little town. So, when it was released on dvd earlier this week I tried to find a copy. It's not in the RedBox machines and Blockbuster only had 4 copies (all of which were rented out).
Then LaRue said "What about the library?"
I got on the library website and sure enough they had it. So we made a quick run and I checked it out. The best part is that I have it for 2 weeks from the library for free instead of a $2.99 one night rental.

As for the movie - we really enjoyed it. It was an interesting look into what Hitchcock had to do to make the film Psycho.

It is definitely worth renting.

Phantom of the Opera - High School Version

The other day we noticed that the dinosaur statue had a new decoration:



It is in honor of the local high school production of Phantom of the Opera. I wrote earlier about the performance we went to at BYU and how good that was.

We decided to attend the high school production last night. And it was surprisingly good. They kids did a great job and everyone sang well. Also the falling chandelier was much more dramatic at the high school than it was at BYU.

 They also did a really good job with the effects. It was definitely one of the better high school performances we have seen.

Roy and Phantom

A few weeks ago I took an extra day off work and we drove out to Roy to visit Robin, Emily and the kids for a couple of days. On the way home we went to Provo to the BYU performance of Phantom of the Opera. It was fantastic. LaRue has a short write-up further down in this entry.

Now I'm turning it over to LaRue for a few words about Phantom.

We get updates from BYUArts so when we found out that Phantom was coming John reserved two tickets.  Since we called shortly after tickets went on sale – we got seats on the front row.  We were lucky as all the performances soon were SOLD OUT out from January 18th to February 2nd.  BYU was the first to get academic performance rights to present PHANTOM!  It was in the de Jong Concert Hall where we had heard Brian Stokes Mitchell sing in September 2010.   It had a cast of 44 actors with 40 in the symphony orchestra. The costumes and set were lavish. The singers were all thrilling to hear. The special effects and surprises made it all the more enjoyable.   We had seen Tim Cooper (Raoul) and DeLaney Westfall ( Christine ) perform with the BYU Young Ambassadors at the Homecoming Spectacular in October 2011 in Provo.  While waiting outside the concert hall John and I happened to see and meet  Gabriel Lee, singer and dancer.  He performed in the BYU Spectacular.  We talked to him for about 15 minutes.  It was so exciting to meet him and tell him how much we enjoyed his performances.  Also while waiting a BYU student came up and sang for us.  It was such a great day for us.
