Monday evening LaRue and I went to see States of Grace. It is an awesome movie. It's a film by Richard Dutcher. He the man who made the successful "God's Army" movie about a couple of LDS missionaries. However, don't assume that States of Grace is "God's Army 2".
Yes, the main characters are LDS missionaries. But it is not so much a film about missionaries as it is about redemption and faith. The film builds to a very emotional, climatic ending that is extremely powerful.
And, having seen the movie, I find that the more I think about it, the more powerful the characters and the theme become. Truly moving.
For you consideration - a few reviews:
“The most intense, thought-provoking, jaw-dropping, emotionally charged movie...I was blown away.â€
—Steven Salles, Standard-Examiner
“Remarkable...stunning, breathtaking...the whole film moves to an entirely new realm. States of Grace doesn't settle for anything. It knows exactly where it's headed and takes you there, step by resonant, heart-pounding step.
—Cody Clark, Daily Herald
“Masterful filmmaking...I loved it!â€
—Doug Wright, The KSL Doug Wright Movie Show
“UNCOMPROMISING...Harshly realistic...a personal catharsis for Dutcher and his own questions of faith.â€
—Scott Foundas, Variety
"Bravely ventures where previous Christian films haven’t dared. A provocative, penetrating look at the power of faith and redemption."
—Wade Major, Box Office Magazine
“A veritable epic of spiritual drama. It's the most faith-affirming, uplifting film I have seen in a long time.†(A-)
—Eric D. Snider, Snide Remarks
“Nervy...challenging. One of the Top 10 Movies of the Year. â€
—Jeff Vice, Deseret Morning News
“Compelling...Hard-hitting...Powerful. Dutcher breaks all the rules.â€
—Sean P. Means, The Salt Lake Tribune
“It's the best movie I've seen this year.â€
—Steven Greenstreet, filmmaker “This Divided State.â€
"It's by far the best of it's kind; and still rivaling the quality of any film in any genre."
— Audrey Rock-Richardson, Tooele Transcript-Bulletin
"It's quite simply one of the most impressive films of the year."
— Bruce Bennett, The Spectrum

No, it's not back up yet. But I believe I have everything resolved. Give it a day or two and then check.

Other Site Problems
I'm fighting with QualityHostOnline, the company that hosts this site and my JohnStuff site. I have paid the fee for the JohnStuff site but it still shows suspended. I have forwarded them a copy of the email receipt I got for the payment. Tomorrow I begin another round of emails to them. If that doesn't get me anywhere - I'll move the site to a new host. Stay tuned for updates.
